Setting Up Your Profile
How to personalise your Impactful profile with a photo, bio, and interests.
Why Your Profile Matters
Your Impactful profile is the first thing organisations and community members see when they interact with you on the platform. A well-crafted profile helps you stand out, builds trust with the organisations you volunteer with, and makes it easier for others to connect with you around shared causes.
Your profile also powers your impact journey. As you complete activities and earn achievements, your progress is showcased right on your profile for you and others to see.
Accessing Your Profile
- Open the Impactful app and go to the Home tab.
- Tap the Profile icon in the top right corner of the header.
- Tap on your profile card (your avatar and name) to open the edit screen.
Choosing a Display Name
Your display name is how you appear throughout the app — on activity feeds, leaderboards, and within organisations.
- From the edit profile screen, tap the Display Name field and enter your preferred name.
- Tap Save and continue to confirm.
Tip: Choose a name that is recognisable and appropriate. Your display name is visible to other people and organisation administrators.
Adding a Profile Photo
A profile photo helps others recognise you and gives your profile a personal touch.
- From the edit profile screen, tap the avatar circle at the top.
- Choose to take a new photo with your camera or select an existing image from your device gallery.
- Adjust the image as needed, then confirm your selection.
- Tap Save and continue to apply the change.
Your photo will appear as a circular avatar across the app, including on activity feeds and within organisation member lists.
Tip: Use a clear, well-lit photo where your face is easy to see. A simple headshot against a plain background works best.
Writing Your Bio
Your bio is a short description that tells others a bit about who you are and what you care about.
- From the edit profile screen, tap the Bio field.
- Write a brief introduction about yourself, or edit the AI-generated suggestion.
- Tap Save and continue when you are finished.
Consider mentioning your interests, what motivates you to volunteer, or the types of causes you are passionate about. Keep the tone friendly and welcoming.
Note: Your bio is visible to other people and organisation administrators. Avoid sharing personal contact details such as your phone number, email address, or home address.
Selecting Your Interests
Impactful lets you choose from volunteer and cause categories that reflect what matters most to you. Your selections help the app suggest relevant activities, opportunities, and organisations tailored to your passions.
Categories are loaded from the platform and may include areas like Animals, Arts and Culture, Education, Environment, Health, Sports, and more.
To select your interests:
- During onboarding, you are presented with the category picker. Tap each category that appeals to you.
- You can select as many as you like.
- Tap Continue to confirm your choices.
The app uses your selected categories to surface activities and suggestions that align with your interests, so choosing accurately helps you discover the most relevant opportunities.
Tip: Selecting a broader range of interests means you will see a wider variety of suggested activities and better AI-generated ideas.
Updating Your Profile Later
You can update any part of your profile at any time:
- Go to the Home tab and tap the Profile icon in the header.
- Tap on your profile card to open the edit screen.
- Make your changes to your display name, photo, bio, or other fields.
- Tap Save and continue to apply your updates.
Your changes take effect immediately across the app.
Tips for a Great Profile
- Be authentic. A genuine profile helps build real connections with other volunteers and organisations.
- Keep your bio concise. One or two sentences that capture your motivation and interests are more effective than a lengthy paragraph.
- Use a recognisable photo. This makes it easier for activity coordinators and fellow volunteers to identify you at events.
- Review your interests regularly. As your passions evolve, update your categories so you continue to see the most relevant opportunities.
- Check your display name. Make sure it is something you are comfortable with appearing on leaderboards and in organisation member lists.
